Scrub-A-Dub Mission Statement
Scrub-A-Dub Video is currently established as a locally-run small business located in Northeast Maryland.
We at Scrub-A-Dub recognize that people want their old home movies transferred to digital-quality DVDs, but the essential “dubbing” process (using the terminology of the industry) alone does not take full advantage of the concept of digital technology. With the advent of digital technology, image and movie manipulation enters into the realm of mathematics, in which the end result can be modified in an unlimited variety of amazing ways which were simply unachievable with the old analog technology of yore (which was the state of the art back when you took your old home movies).
Amongst the ways that digital manipulation can work in your favor is that of the art of perceivable quality. The technology now exists whereby the audio and video of your home movies, once it has undergone a digital transfer (or “dub”), can be further enhanced greatly versus just simply having the digital transfer performed.
In other words, we do a high quality digital transfer just like the other guys,but WE have the experience and knowledge to take it a step further in order to make your home movies as enjoyable to watch as possible. Don't just pay to have your movies transferred. Anyone can do that. Try our combined transfer & digital cleanup service so that you can watch these movies on your HD television without feeling shortchanged.
We are all now used to high-quality, digital video in today's digital media world that doesn't exhibit all of the “hiss and click” in the audio, and grainy residue in the video that comes as a result of using analog tape formats. Back then, you didn't have a choice. But nowadays, we can make video from tape seem much unlike it was recorded from tape. Allow us to process your video such that your home movies can achieve this high standard of audio and video quality. We have invested a significant amount of money to purchase the very best hardware & software tools which make this a reality for our customers. We have done the research to know what works well versus what doesn't. Let us show you what we can do.
Keep in mind that we aren't LucasArts' Industrial Light & Magic, which is the VERY best digital arts editing team around. Your movies aren't going to be painstakingly edited frame-by-frame, and your movie will still be in SD (or standard definition, which is the standard for DVDs and not Blu-Rays). However, it is unlikely that you would pay or even have the opportunity to invest as much as required for your home movies to be handled in this way. We offer a cost-effective, “best effort” digital cleanup service which will provide great results which will undoubtedly be better than simply not having the cleanup process not done at all. We know you'll be satisfied.
Keep in mind that if you ever would have the desire to consult someone else to perform a cleanup process much like we perform, your originals still stand to serve as the basis for this. The digital cleanup process is non-destructive, and all of the processing is performed on a digital copy of your media and not the original media itself. In other words, there is NO RISK to your original media by having this processing performed by us.
Even if you have already paid to have your tapes transferred to DVD, it is not too late to have the cleanup process performed on the digital media, even if you don't wish to pay to have the transfer process performed again. We can simply clean up the preexisting DVD transfer that was already made for you once you provide it to us. Keep in mind that we use professional-grade tape players & DVD recorders for our service, and you would likely get better results if you decided to combine the transfer & cleanup processes with us in your order. However it is not a necessity to have us perform both operations at once.
Your privacy matters to us. Your videos, once handed over to us, will not become “viral” videos on YouTube at your expense. There is no need to worry about your videos becoming embarrassing features on the Internet. We understand that your special, private home movies were not meant to become public showcases, unlike those who are not as responsible as we are in this business.
We can currently handle transfers from VHS & Sony Video8 tapes. We currently cannot handle other video tape formats, such as Betamax, although we may be able to in the future once our business takes shape and can invest in such accommodations.

Rates
In all cases, a minute consists of one whole, consistent minute of progressive video, not including unrecorded tape. Individual video segments lasting less than one minute are rounded up to the next minute. Video segments not ending on the minute mark are rounded up to the next minute.
Current Rates:
Transfer Only (Not Including Cleanup Service): 30 cents/minute
CleanUp Only (from preexisting DVD transfer): 50 cents/minute
Transfer & Cleanup (Our Premiere Service): $1/minute
Resulting Video Provided as playable DVD + computer files: $10 extra
We will work on price with our customers if there is a bulk video processing prospect available (starts at more than two hours of video to process on tape).
We currently do not charge any additional fees for the cost of digital media discs required by our services.
The end result of our services will be one or multiple DVDs that are organized by individual video segment (a chapter per segment). Keep in mind that several segments consisting of the same theme will frequently be combined together into one segment (chapter) on the finalized disc as judged by the individual performing the operation.
The DVDs provided to you will be quality Sony or Verbatim DVD+R or DVD+R DL discs (depending on the amount of video processed). The discs provided are quality recordable discs that will stand a reasonable test of time (about one lifetime), provided they are securely kept at room temperature in a protective case. We do not believe in providing economy recordable media discs to our customers, which have undoubtedly shorter lifetimes and poor reliability standards. However, keep in mind that the provided media will not be factory-pressed.
If you wish to have individual computer files of the segments provided for you, you can choose the option just to have the individual MPEG2-compliant files burned to disc instead of a playable DVD at the same cost, or to have both a playable DVD and files provided to you at an additional cost (see above).
Individual computer files are a convenient option that would allow you to play each of your video segments on your Windows, Macintosh, or Linux computer simply by double-clicking on the file once it has been loaded by your computer. These resulting files can be easily shared between friends & family, and can even be used to upload the videos to YouTube at your discretion. These can also serve as useful entities that can be used for further editing and/or archival onto your hard drive(s) or USB thumb drive(s) (not provided).
